5 easy steps to make a Photo-exhibition

1. Download and print the pictures (click on the images to enlarge)
2. Make a frame of card-board covered with jute pieces
3. Make a collage of pictures and stick them on the frame (as suggested)
4. Print sufficiently large sized captions and stick them beneath the pictures.
5. Now you are set to display the photo exhibition: Use strings and clips to set the frames up.

Frame 1: Beautiful Kodaikanal - Also known as Venice of the East

Frame 2: An Ageing mercury thermometer plant was shut down in Water Town, New York
and relocated to India in 1984

Frame 3: With little regard for people's health and environment, mercury bearing wastes were dumped in the watershed forests behind the factory…

Frame 4: … and also in a scrap yard in a crowded part of Kodaikanal town

Frame 5: March 7th, 2001: Ex-workers and residents marched to the factory to protest Unilever’s mercury dumping.

Frame 6: Sustained campaigning by ex-workers led to a clean-up of scrap yard waste.

Frame 7: 289 tons of mercury waste being sent back to the US

Frame 8: 19 workers, most of them under the age of 45 have died

Workers were kept in dark about the hazards of mercury. Many handled it without any protective equipment.

Frame 9: Pollution affected children of ex-workers

Ignorant of mercury’s toxicity, workers unwittingly carried mercury home in their hair and clothes thereby poisoning children and family.

Frame 10: Demands - 7 years later many basic demands are still pending
