CUDDALORE: The Tamil Nadu Meenavar Peravai has urged the government not to accord sanction to the establishment of some industries at the SIPCOT industrial estate here.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, district president of the association M Suburayan stated that the industries, if established, would pose a threat to marine life in the Bay of Bengal.
Several industries, including a mega PVC plant, a multi-crore oil refinery unit and a textile park are to be set up in the region shortly.
The industries had proposed to release the effluents into the sea which would affect their occupation, he said. Suburayan therefore urged the government not to accord sanction to the units.
He also warned of an agitation if the government failed to consider their plea.
